Why Cause

The development of the 3 year-old mind is a wonder and a miracle. "Why?" is a favorite question and I have to think much more than I care to admit when I have to answer "why" questions to intricate problems like: "You can't wear black shoes with a brown dress," and "Flush the toilet," and "Don't smear yogurt on your face," and "Get off your sister," and "Don't lay on your sister," and "Help, go get the diaper wipes for me, please!"
Often, in my frustration I answer, "Cause why. There isn't always a good reason, just do it because I say to do it!!" These are such wise words from a stressed out mother -- perhaps I should write a book titled, 100,000 answers to the question "Why," but not today. Now my quick 3 year-old has started answering my thought provoking questions with "Cause why." Is there anything more annoying than hearing "cause why" when I am trying to find out why Emma did an underdog on her baby sister who was playing peacefully in the doorway Jolly Jump-Up? Oh, yes, there is something more annoying. Yesterday at dinner, Emma was scraping her fork across her plate making that horrible nails-on-chalk-board sound. I asked, "Why are you doing that? It hurts my ears." (I wonder at times why I bother with such ridiculous questions, but it was out there demanding an answer in any respect). Emma bobbed her head like a gum-smacking adolescent and said, "Why, cause, MOM." Why cause, indeed.

Verse of the day:

"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh
at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her
tongue. " Prv. 31:25-26

So funny, yet so true. I am constanly hearing myself in things my kids say....sometimes I will smile and sometimes I will cringe :) They seem to be little reflections of us!
