Fair Fun

Last weekend was the county fair. We always go.... always. My husband did 4H when he was younger and his siblings continue to enter 4H competitions, from animals to craft project and food. Jeff entered some wheat this year and I entered the photography contest. Jeff won $25 on his wheat! It is kinda funny because his younger brother was the one who divided the wheat into bags, labeled it and entered it for Jeff, his dad, and himself (all from the same batch). Younger brother didn't think it was so funny. :)

I entered 4 pictures this year, but completely spaced it until the day of, so I was scrambling. In the past, I entered 6 different pictures, 3 color and 3 black and white to be a part of the Distinguished Amateur Photography Contest (it is the only contest that involves a money prize). I didn't have time, so I entered what I had and 2 of the pictures placed in the top 3 for their category. One was the black and white picture of Mandy that I have in the sidebar. The other was one of the senior pictures of Jesse.

This guy has nothing to do with anything. That is what I love about the fair...

The county fair is full of fun things for little kids. We enjoy walking around looking at the farm animals. The favorite this year was the Bible story house where Emma listened attentively to a Bible story and got candy and a hand painting. Mandy just begged for candy and she got her hand painted as well. Time for the Word to soak in later.

Emma still really wants a horse and asks us all the time when she can get one. She loved looking at the horses in the barns at the fair. She has a way with animals and really adores horses. Another issue for another day....

I found the fair slightly less satisfying because I couldn't indulge in ice cream OR Kettle Corn. Avoiding sugar is not hard for me to do anymore, but I am still not happy about it. My family doesn't care that I can't have it, so they enjoyed all the sugary goodness for me. Emma will point out, "Mom can't have sugar," as she is eating her ice cream cone. Thanks for the reminder. Coming soon, an entire post on my pancreatic crisis and why I can't have sugar while pregnant. I know you'll be waiting anxiously!

I'm really sad that when I bumped into you (literally) I had to rush away for an emergency diaper changing and our girls couldn't play! I love the fair! I love that my sister is painting your girls in that picture too!

NOTHING better than that county fair! The highlight of growing up was getting to be there from open to close.

We went to the fair this year, felt Madison was too young last year and it was so HOT as I remember. This year was great, the petting zoo was the greatest and she kept mooing at the cows to get them to moo back. She didn't appreciate the turkey gobbling at her though! She was bummed she couldn't go on the swings because she was too short. She just kept saying "too short". I was fine with it, plenty of time to ride on questionable rides at the fair! Corn on the cob, yummy!

I stopped going to the fair years ago, too many gang bangers. Going with Madison sheds new light on it for me, daytime hours only!

Ah, I miss the fair! Wish I could have gone!

Mandy looks especially adorable and all grown up in her overalls in that last picture. =)

Missing the biggest event in Polk county this year was very sad.

A couple months ago I had a dream that I gave birth in the FFA barn durning the auciton! I love the fair, but not that much ;)

We totally loved the fair! This was the first year we attended the Polk County Fair and I will definitely be back. I saw your photos that you entered and really liked the b/w you entered. I saw the wheat in identical Ziplock bags which made me laugh!
