The Table Top Massacre

They were all tired out that Sunday afternoon and napping sounded like a good idea. Emma was in her bed while her parents went to theirs. All slept peacefully until mid-day when Emma woke before her parents. She wondered the house aimlessly, playing in the pile of clean laundry, stumbling over her Legos, looking at a book. As she passed through the dining room she suddenly remembered something: “Mommy put those special prize peaches on the table.” With a little effort she slid a chair out and was presented with a bounty unlike she had ever seen; rows of plump, juicy peaches lay waiting. Overcome with temptation she picked up a peach and bit into it. Oh, it was delicious, warmed by the sun streaming in through the window. She devoured one and couldn’t resist another and another… The taste was beyond compare!

After awhile her tummy grew full and Emma sat down in the chair. She was sticky and damp from her stolen prize peaches. Annoyed at the feeling, she climbed down to find mommy. Mommy always cleaned her up. She found her parents still sleeping in their bed. A shrug of the shoulders was the response when the mommy asked in groggy surprise, “Emma, what did you do?!!”

It was then, when the mommy stumbled out of her sweet afternoon nap that she found the massacre. Peaches everywhere, half devoured and covered in bite marks, lay scattered and mashed on the white table clothe in the dining room. The mommy was able to save a few, but five were lost completely, consumed by the little one who woke too soon.

Great writing! I "savored" every word and juicy phrase!! And I was able to identify with the author so easily too! Aunt Marci

Oh Emma... Benton snuck an orange out of Uncle Paul's lunch bag the other day and carried it off to his room for a delicious snack. He did not realize that an orange should be peeled before one sinks his teeth into it. If you ask him, he will tell you, "no like it." I think you got a better deal, kiddo.

Oh my!! That's a lot of peaches for a little tummy! Your story is only missing mommy's total reaction. Maybe we don't want to know:)
