I've been working on a re-do of my dining room. We had a serious leak under one of the windows that caused the paintable wall-paper to pull off the walls (Emma's little helping hands did some damage as well). Now that the window is replaced, Jeff is working on raised panels for under both windows. They will be painted white to match the other moldings. (I tried to get more matching wall-paper, but I couldn't find any). I am sewing new curtains and will paint the walls. I even got a new light fixture! The old one was original to the house and hideous.
Now, my only question is, what do I put on the walls? I have a plate rack that is not going back up because I get tired of the keeping the plates on it (Emma again), a couple white shelves that I got at Target that I don't like and a clock that I don't like. As you know from my other re-dos, I like to do things as cheaply as possible. Any suggestions? What is on the walls of your kitchen/dining room? I was actually thinking of framing the picture above of Emma eating spaghetti. Some may find that unappetising to have in a dining room, though. I am interested to hear what you think...

I'll post "After" pictures when they are available. This is what the dining room looks like now. The plain white curtains have always been temporary and it took me 5 years to find the fabric I wanted to replace them. There was just enough fabric on the bolt at JoAnn's and I got all of it. I pre-washed it like a good seamstress and it shrunk by 1/3 of a yard. It is not ideal, but I came up with a solution. I wouldn't be a farmer's wife if I couldn't improvise (some call this jerry-rigging). I'll take pictures when the room is complete.

The only thing hanging in my dining room is the family tree, but I only have 1 1/2 walls to my dining room. If I had a dining room like yours, I would be tempted to decorate in a light blue and rich chocolate brown. They have been doing that alot on Design on a Dime and it always looks fabulous.
