I went to MOPS yesterday and enjoyed being with women who have been there/done that. Quite a few people asked me when I was due or said they were hoping I would bring my new baby to MOPS (ya, me too). My favorite comment was, “Hey, you are still in one piece.”
After telling countless people that I was over-due, I got some advice for inducing labor. These are the opinions of others and may or may not reflect things I have already tried to get this baby to come.
- 1. Take a long walk (my sister insists that walking in flip-flops is key)
- Mow the lawn
- Play ultimate Frisbee
- Sex (the “you started this, now you finish it” approach, so alluring)
- Jump rope
- Jump on a trampoline
- Ride around in a combine (apparently 8 hours is the correct amount of time)
I am still waiting for the baby since the “natural methods” have not worked to make me go in to labor. My midwife said they won’t let me go much more than a week over, so Monday (the 17th) should be as long as I have to wait. In the meantime, I am stir crazy, bored, and just a tad irritable. The house that I’ve kept clean for the last 3 weeks is now messy again and I am 2 loads of laundry behind and I really don’t care any more. The “nesting” bug has worn itself out and I am tired.
Please don’t worry! I will let you know when I have had this baby! A few people have called a little anxious that perhaps I was sitting at home in euphoria, nursing my new baby and did not bother to call them (or blog about it!). If you think you are anxious… ah! I will let you know. Believe me.
In other news, my mother nicely went shopping for me last night after I whined about not finding a robe. It is not only me who had trouble finding the “perfect thing,” apparently these plain-simple-light-weight-robes are not in fashion at the moment. My dad went along as support staff, but they didn’t have a lot of luck in their search. At one point, my mom called explaining a night gown that came with a robe, actually a “sleeping jacket.” She described it as a bolero style that would be “quite practical.” I was about to give in and tell her to buy it since it was the only thing she could find, but then she discovered it wasn’t a set. The gown and jacket were $18 each! Why would a person need one without the other? My favorite one she found was one described as “knee length seer-sucker with snaps.” I heard my dad say it would be perfect for me when I gained another 200 pounds. Awhile later, my mom called from another store and was overjoyed to have finally stumbled on some clearance robes. They had white in a light-weight velour or peach that was a longer style, but a size small. I heard my dad in the background, “It is really more of a melon color.” They ended up with the white one (I think) in a M/L because there is no land, pregnant or not, that I am a size small. Thanks mom and dad for making the best personal shopping team!

Alysun, the bathrobe story is so funny! Love the image of the seersucker with snaps!
My sisters always said the key to having the baby was "a long walk followed by a little loving" I never had to test the theory though, but it might be worth a try :)
I can just picture your parents on this shopping mission - ha ha...and I do keep checking the blog for baby news, figuring that phone calls don't reach Virginia :)And I though you would be glad not to have a 9-11 baby--though I guess you were hoping to avoid that by being early, not late - sorry.
I keep checking your blogspot to see.... the dreaded waiting game... reminds me that I might be in the same spot next week....wondering if this baby will ever come out. I had to laugh about the loss of the nesting instinct. I had my big burst last week--cooked and froze about 30 lunches for Nathan while entertaining five separate guests throughout the day as well as doing some laundry and cleaning. Then I woke up sick with a cold the next morning and decided nesting was over. So now there are crumbs on the carpet and the laundry is full again... and I don't really care if the baby comes into this "chaos" any longer.
On the bright side of waiting.. maybe our babies will have the same birthday!
I check your blog every day to see if you have delivered. By the way, if baby Peters came today it would share a birthday with me. You better get out that trampoline!
There is always the wivestale that says to drink castor oil to induce labor (not to be confused with castrol oil, which is what I first thought people meant!)
Ah, I like refreshing your page every 5 minutes. You should put some google ads on your page and make some $$$ :)
