Bon Voyage

I am getting ready for my big trip to Nashville (via Dallas) and Washington DC (via Detroit). It is a really crazy flight schedule that will leave me wondering if it was really worth the great deal I got on the ticket. Once I am there, I will be so glad, but first I have to make the journey with a cranky, squirmy, 8 month old. Feel free to pray for me. I need grace and patience.
My first stop will be Nashville to visit Laura (and her husband Kris). Hillary (on the right) will be meeting me there from her home in San Francisco. The 3 of us girls all met in 1996 at Palomar Mountain Christian Conference Center where we worked in the dining hall, slinging buffet trays and wash rags at each other. Actually, we never flung buffet trays at each other, only wash rags.

We've stayed close friends through the years, making visits a few times a year when Hillary was in BC and Laura in Washington. Since everyone has moved, we still manage to see each other once a year or so. Remarkable, considering all that has transpired in our lives over the last 12 years.

Next I will be going to Washington DC to meet up with my cousin and friend Jessi. She actually lives a few hours outside of DC, but because of my flight schedule, we decided to stay in the city to see as much as possible. Jessi and I were roommates for 9 months and have done numerous fun things together in our young and single days.

I know you would like some explanation of the picture above and, why do I look like such a giant? In spite of our obvious height difference, Jessi asked me to be a bride's maid in her wedding. I am so tall. Emma says that all the time now and I say back to her, "You have no idea." I have been in 9 weddings, and 7 of them I towered over the bride herself. In one wedding I was only 10 and had not received the growth spurt that now makes it impossible to find pants that fit. The only other wedding I did not tower over the bride was my sister-in-law Jayne's. She is one inch taller than me, but even she wore flats and I wore heels. That means I still towered over her, just not in a 5'10" to 5'4" way. Amendment: I have towered over the bride (and sometimes the groom) in 8 out of 9 weddings. That does not explain the ridiculous expression on my face, but I have a small excuse and that is I could not breath in that dress. Hold your breath and try to smile. Try it. You probably look just as ridiculous.

In any event, you can now tell that I am procrastinating packing for my voyage. I wish I was already there. You'll miss me while I am gone because I won't be posting on the blog. Not that anyone is actually reading the blog anymore besides Cathy (my mom's cousin) and Lindsay. Thank you to you two gals who I am sure will miss me. :)

Hey now! I'm reading your blog too! Have fun on your trip! I hear you about the squirmy baby - Abby has gotten so squirmy over the last few weeks that I can't even imagine traveling across the country on a plane with her! Is Emma staying home? If so, how is she taking that?

I'm also reading your blog Al. I just don't get to mine that often. :) I hope you have a great trip. It sounds like a lot of fun. I've always wanted to get over to that part of the country. Especially Washington DC. I'll be praying that Mandy is a great traveling buddy.

You know there are a lot of us out here that just don't have time to comment! often just a quick peek while on break at work. And you know I love your blogs it allows me to see my babies a little more often, gives us a good laugh and directs our prayers. It always leaves me wanting to kiss those little baby faces. sure had fun with Emma while you were gone.
