A day off

I missed a day of blogging and it felt so strange. I have a daily routine that involves blogging (among other important things) and I don't like to disappoint my fans. Me and the Pioneer Woman, we have people to keep happy.

This weather threw everyone for a loop it seems. We went from sweltering hot temperatures to rainy sweatshirt weather over night. And my husband went from spending 14 hours a day away from home to coming in at random times during the day, restless and looking for work to do. Thankfully they were able to get the wheat crop in before the almost inch of rain we received.

So, this crazy cold and rainy weather is what took us to the beach in the middle of the week in August. It was a pleasant deviation from the norm and I soaked up the time with my little family. The day was great, full of sun (it was much warmer at the Coast), sand, shopping, and fish and chips at Mo's.

Jeff taught the girls how to build a real sand castle. The method was lost on Mandy, but Emma liked the cool trick. The girls could have played in the sand all the live long day. They were angles while we were down at the beach.

Mandy has no fear, just like Emma, and crawled straight for the water. She was headed for the waves when we rescued her.

Don't you hate that yucky sandy feel after playing at the beach? Having kids covered in the stuff in every conceivable crevice, is much, much worse than my own discomfort. They were such a mess. But they didn't care one bit.

Yes, she is eating the sand and no, we couldn't make her stop. We were flicking her hand for awhile and saying "icky" and then she would crawl behind something and shovel some more sand into her mouth. I don't feel like the best parent for admitting this. I told myself that it wasn't the end of the world. Right?

I got a new red coat. It called out to me, from somewhere in my kacki, beige, and denim soul. My non-red-loving husband loves it and even insisted I wear it instead of my gray sweatshirt (sometimes I go crazy and wear gray). I think his soul needs red too.

This picture cracks me up. I set the camera up with the girls in the picture. It took them 10 seconds to completely get out of the shot. Oh, well. It isn't very often I get a picture with just me and my guy. I love him and our completely unpredictable life.

It looks great at the beach! Sorry about the rain. Funny how your girls love the water. Russell points at the waves and says, "no wet! no wet!" City kid.

Nice coat Al...definitely worth all the risk!

I'm imagining the crunching on the sand that Mandy was eating and it like nails on a chalk board when i think of it!

I missed you posting yesterday. I've gotten in the habit of checking it. There are much worse things than sand in the mouth. When Eli gets dirt in his mouth Paul tells me that he is building his immune system. I think he has a point.

We went to the beach today too and Abby got her share of sand in the mouth as well. =) I don't think it can be helped. I figured it was probably cleaner than the grass (no pesticides or remnants of doggie doo or something like that).

I love the red coat. Paired with your dark glasses and new hairdo, it makes you look quite glamorous. I must say that I saw the picture before I read your caption and thought, "Whoa!! Alysun in a RED coat?!? What's going on?" =)

I don't know anyone that goes to a beach with an active baby that isn't changing sandy diapers the next day. I say it's not a big deal, but then I've also decided that feeding my son off the floor is perfectly acceptable these days as well. We're going to the beach next weekend and I can't wait!

I love the red coat shot! It so looks like a magazine ad, it is a feel good picture and your hair looks really good in the wind, much more fun than a pony tail. You inspired me to think of cutting mine. The shot of you and your guy is awesome too! What a fun day. I live vicariously through your adventures and definitely missed the goings on in Paradise.

I absolutely LOVE that coat. Red being my favorite color, I eyeballed it immediately. Looks great on you. How fun...sandy diapers and sandy...everything! Anyone who has been to the beach with little ones can definitely relate and I think we all come to the conclusion...what's a "little" sand. It's gotta make you smile, right! Love the picture of just the two of you, even if it wasn't planned. :0)

Looks like you had a great day at the beach. Isn't sand it's own food group? :) Great jacket! I love it and it looks great on you. Lindsay is always telling me a need more colour in my wardrobe...was there another jacket like that one? :)

Yes, every soul should be crying out for red! You do realize that to some of us, red IS a neutral! I love the jacket by the way!
