A sneak peak at the living room makeover

Isn't she lovely? I was searching for something with some presence to balance out the top of my piano. Originally I was thinking about a vase, but then I remembered that my decorator suggested a potted plant in the corner with floor lighting. Floor lighting and large potted plants with a mad crawler in the house! Ha! So I took that idea and found this house plant with no name from Wal Mart for $3.50. It came in an ordinary disposable pot and I still needed some of the deep red on that side of the room. I found this pot at Lowes for $20. It wasn't even on sale -- gasp! I simply could not turn away from the pot once I found it though. It was beautiful and perfect and the right color and I walked around trying to find something cheaper that would "work." In the end, I bought it and I love it.

This picture also shows off the new paint color called brown sugar. I painted the trim bright white and the ceiling too because I had nothing better to do. Actually, I could find 50 million better things to do than paint the ceiling and trim, but once I started I was committed. Now I am glad I did it.

My budget is suffering. I had only $100 and I am over by $20 -- that beautiful pot. My husband still shakes his head at my decorating project because he saw nothing wrong with the way the room was, lacking pizazz and beautiful red pottery and tall lovely plants. I still need to sew the curtains, but I finished sewing 6 new decorator pillows, with piping. The end is in sight! Stay tuned..

You are amazing! I don't know how you find the time for all your projects with two busy little girls. :)

The pot is beautiful...and I think I remember Kathy G. saying something about splurging on a few key pieces that you really love. And I think $20 is a fairly samll splurge, even if it wasn't on sale!

I am still trying to find time, motivation, and moola to finish my playroom. You are so inspiring!!

Good for you for buying the red pot that you loved! Too often I make the mistake of not buying what I loved because I thought it was too expensive and wind up regretting the cheaper item I purchased instead. Just think of all the happiness that red pot will bring you every time you look at it and enjoy it :)

And I'm pretty sure the Interior Designer doesn't have children if she suggested you put the potted plant on the floor. I'm pretty sure Mandy would have eaten it for lunch!
