To scrap or not to scrap scrapping, that is the question.

I jumped headlong into the realm of scrapbooking when my first child was just a baby. I see now why it lured me in with such force; 1) I had something to scrapbook about with my new super-cute baby, 2) I had plenty of time to scrapbook, and 3) I had space to leave my projects out. I was even a consultant for a home-based scrapbooking business for 2 years. I was terrible at it.... no, no, really terrible. I'm not being modest. The only plus for me to selling people things at parties was the free stuff and discounted product I received to feed my habit. And feed it I did.

I had Emma's baby book embossed. I loved putting it together for her.

I included the calendar pages from the First Year calendar that I kept. Look at all those things I filled in.

I had a calendar for Mandy too and filled in about 2 days for the year.

I didn't even get one for Rem and saved myself some guilt.

I love scrapbooking. The themes, the papers, oh my!

Not only are scrapbooks fun to make, they are also fun to look through. Emma enjoys paging through her book and "remembering" when she was a baby.

The picture above has me thinking about bangs again. Hmmm.... scrapbooks are good for so many things.

Mandy's baby book is a rare consultant only special from Creative Memories. I had so much left over pink paper, stickers, and embelishments from Emma's album that it was a cinch to work on her album.

I started gung-ho on the project and worked diligently on the album....

My stars! Is there anything more precious that a chubby baby fresh from the bath?

Yes, that's Mandy, not Rem. I'm willing to admit my children looking a whole bunch alike.

So, I was working gung-ho on Mandy's album and somewhere about the 9th month of Mandy's life, my scrapbook supplies started disappearing. Mysterious?

Emma discovered crafting. There is nothing she loves more in the whole world than using my beautiful (and expensive) supplies. You would think I could work along side her, sending scraps her way, but it feels like a full time job keeping her and now Mandy occupied while I'm scrapping, productive, and out of my stuff.

And that's where the story ends....

And then Rem came along and said, "Where's my scrapbook?"

He may have not said it in so many words, but he and I have a connection. I know what he's thinking.

Now I'm wondering whether I should brave the expensive, time consuming spectrum of the scrapbooking world I love. I'm not going to even start to mention all the projects I have started on other scrapbooks that I haven't finished either... it's a sickness.

Such cute things for a baby boy's scrapbook!

I'm heavily invested in the tools for scrapbooking, but I don't have any boy-ish anything. I would need to buy an album, the papers (the sets above are $9 each). The order I would make would be around $100.

Another option is to do digital scrapbooking. Instead of actual papers that you cut with actual tools, I would create the layouts in Photoshop and then print the whole page out and put it in an album. I would still need an album, and the digital papers cost money too (about $1 each or $5 for large sets of papers and embellishments). I estimate this route would be about $50.

Photobooks: no actual effort involved. I recently put together a photobook online through Blurb. Many sites are doing them now. I did the album for my cousin's wedding -- it was on Saturday, I designed the album on Monday and had it less than a week later. Fast and fun!

The prices start at about $30 for 15 pages and go up from there. I would probably spend around $50, but wouldn't do the book until Rem was a year old. It would be similar to blogging and I already enjoy that. It's a good option for Rem's baby book. Pretty sure my boy would forgive my laziness. Maybe.

Take a moment to leave a comment about what you would do or do do with scrapbooking for your babies. (Is it ever not awkward to have 3 do's in a sentence?)

I also have a poll on the sidebar that you can vote on. I'll let you know what I decide.

I would think that Blurb would be an awesome option for you. You already have a ton of journaling on your blog, and you already have some of your best pictures picked out and posted, so it seems like a great option. What do I do, though? Well, each boy has a 1st year scrapbook, and then I'm just scrapping for myself . . . mostly digital these days. So far, I've done one 8x8 Shutterfly photo book, and I have printed some layouts 12x12 (which is too expensive). I usually print in 8x8 on my own printer, since I have a standard size printer, or I can upload 8x10 to a processor (but keep my layouts 8x8). I find that I like the 8x8 format the best because the boys can hold the books in their hands without any awkwardness (and I can still read the 12pt journaling). I'm kinda behind on my printing, though, so I think my best option is to upload a bunch of layouts and have them printed (not bound, because I like to have the freedom to move my pages around). Blah, blah, blah. It's late and I have a lot to say on this topic, but I am sometimes wishy-washy, because I do change my mind every once in a while. If you have any questions, let me know!

Oh man! I have the same debate! I've discovered the wonderful world of photobooks but have been scrapbooking since 2006 and have slowed down since Millie was born. It's so much fun to scrapbook, but so much work! Not sure what to do.

I love scrapbooking! Not only is it a great creative outlet for me, but I absolutely adore pretty designs and find I'm better at scrapbooking then sewing (I see scrapbook paper and pretty fabrics as one and the same).

I started when Grace was a year old so I was a year behind from the get go. When I was pregnant with Ethan I got gung ho and got caught up to September 2007. And then I took almost a year off. I like to go to the scrapbook store and scrapbook on Friday night crops because A) I need a girls night out every now and again and B) I only buy paper/embellishments as I need them which is slightly cheaper then buying tons of papers and goodies and then figuring out what on earth to do with it all.

I did do one scrapbook entirely about Ethan's first year so he'd have his own book. It has the "firsts" and I kept up the regular family scrapbook as well. The only duplicates were Ethan's birth (It's kind of a major family event...I just couldn't ignore it!) and major holidays like Christmas and Easter. If I ever had another child (which I'm pretty sure I'm not!) I would do the same thing.

You should come out with Susan and I and whoever else we can con into going with us when we scrapbook at Running With Scissors every now and again. I'm not sure if they're holding Friday Night Crops during the summer, so perhaps we just need to meet at one another's houses. It's way more fun to do with friends!

My vote is the traditional scrapbook. You are so creative and just think of the fun you would have!! Much better than sitting in front of your computer screen. I know it is easy for me to say I don't have 3 little ones to keep busy while I scrapbook. Maybe plan a weekend away? But then again, that would make this album that much more expensive. I am sure that whatever you decide, will be lovely!

I buy my stuff in the dollar section at Target! The girls can use it without me cringing too much. I've also let them work on their own books. That gets real interesting but you can still see the important part (the pictures).

Though you may not have time now, you might regret not putting together an actual book you an hold & touch in the future. Just a thought.

Someone wise once told me, "I enjoy scrapbooking because it is the one things in my life that stays done." Oh, I think that was you that told me that. I still do old fashioned paper scrapping in 12x12 albums (that I can't find anywhere to store...). 1 album for the family--when I die the children can take the books apart and keep the pages they want (that's my theory anyway). I do have 'Baby Books' for each of the kids--Carson's is very slim (third child) and gets most of his info. typed in a word document to enter later in the book. I'm only 2 years behind on the family albums. Just finished Father's Day of 2008. Kelsey
