Beautiful Lengths, Emma's story...

For awhile now, Emma has wanted to donate her hair to "kids with cancer." Her aunt Kelly did it a few months ago and also Emma's friend Heidi has cut her hair to donate in the past.

We ended up participating in Pantene's Beautiful Lengths, same concepts as Locks of Love, but a shorter donation length is required (only 8" instead of 10" for LoL). Both organizations put together human hair into fashionable wigs for women going through cancer treatments. They partner with the American Cancer Society to make it a free service.

Love the concept, and also love that Emma was so willing to help others.

People often ask where my triple-threat blond kids came from.

Since both Jeff and I have darker hair now, most don't realize (or remember) that we were toe-heads in our childhoods.

My hair started turning dark about ages 10-11 and Jeff is still *dark* blond... or at least that's what his license says.

Jeff is the white-haired boy in blue stripes in the picture on the left. He's with his cousins. His little sister Jayne is standing right in front of him.

The picture on the right is dear little me, I think this is my 8th birthday. Blond hair w/ a perm was SO awesome mid eighties. I love my sister in this photo, I'm sure she'll love me even more for posting this -- the glasses, the bow, so rad.

That's just a side note. Back to Emma and cutting off her lovely blond locks.....

She was REALLY excited about doing this. She wanted an appointment before Christmas, but the salon was closed. She wanted an appointment after Christmas and I kept forgetting to call. Then I made an appointment and we had to cancel because of the flooding -- that's a story for another day.

Finally, today was the day and we went to Big Funky Hair Salon to my gall Trisha. She has a way with kids and Emma was in seventh heaven being pampered.

Emma held perfectly still and I asked her why she was so good? Usually she freaks out about the tiny pieces of hair on her face when I cut it. She said, "Because I like Trisha cutting my hair better." Oh dear, this is going to be an expensive habit unless we wait 5 years for it to grow out again to donate for another free hair-cut.

Have I mentioned how awesome I think this little girl is?

Very generous, very thoughtful, very beautiful inside and out, and very hilarious.

Love her like crazy!

And here she is with her short and sassy hair......

What a tribute to her fine upbringing. I have tears running down my cheeks. She is amazingly beautiful, from the inside out.

Good job Emma! I think the cut is adorable - what a generous gift :) I love the old school photos, too. I see a 'little' of Mandy in Jayne!
