10 Things I Know About Potty Training

1. I dislike toilet training, but I dislike even more changing grown-up-like poop out of diapers.

2. Bribing works. Candy at 6am, sure! Candy at 11pm, sure!

3. Consistency works. Except when it doesn't.

4. Pull-Up manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank. They can charge double for a diaper appealing to toddlers and ensure that I'll be buying them until my kid is 10 because he likes them so much.

5. I need a nanny.

6. Clorox Disinfecting Wipes are my BFF.

7. Clorox Disinfecting Wipes are my BFF with benefits. I write love songs about them as I'm wiping pee from the outside of the toilet bowl, the wall, the floor, the sink and the side of the tub.

8. Boy are harder to train than girls. It's not an urban legend, it's true. My boy is very unmotivated to learn this skill.

9. If one more person brags on social media about how easily their toddler was potty trained, I'm going to throw a poopy Pull-Up at my computer screen.... and then clean it up with a Clorox Disinfecting Wipe.

10. Never mind, that's just gross. Do I really need more messes to clean up? I think not.

I'm with you sister! I do not like toilet training...more like mom training if you ask me. My #5 has done it earlier than his brothers and often on his own, very poor consistency and it's taking forever! (see the mom training and consistency parts)

I agree 100%! Toilet training is for someone else! If I can't get the job done by kindergarten, do I have to homeschool? Trying to be supportive of the little guys interest when big sis is wearing me down on the whole thing! I'm 0 for 2 so far! I'll cheer you on, but I have no tips to share. You go girl!

That was funny, Alysun! Thanks for the laugh! Honestly, I don't like toilet training either but, honestly, I think both my toilet trained children trained relatively easily compared to other stories I've heard. Ben definitely took longer than Abby, but I was SO glad I didn't push it on him and once he was ready, it went pretty smoothly. (Of course, he does not know standing up as an option and it was a long time before I left him alone in the bathroom - makes for less messes because I HATE dealing with bathroom type messes :)

Did not mean to put "honestly" twice in that sentence! Bleh! :)

Uuugggg. That doesn't sound fun. I think I got very lucky. My trained at 18 months by accident (we had bought a potty just to get him used to the idea) and it just stuck. I DID NOT use pull ups to train. I bought about 600 pair of underwear lol and just took him pee every 15-30 minutes. I also trained him to pee sitting down first (until he was tall enough to pee in the toilet). Part of my ease was I didn't have three other children wanting my attention. My only drawback is we still aren't consistently dry at night (age 5.5) so we do use pull ups at bed time only. Hang in there. He will learn (even if you have to beat him over the head lol).
