I've had a bad case of "new car disease" for a few years now. It started when we realized both driver and passenger seats in my sporty DINK car had to be pushed forward in order to hold the rear facing infant car seat. The disease gained force day by day as child #1 got older and now kicks the back of my seat and I have to become a contortionist to get child #2 into the back seat as well.
My car runs great. My car gets fabulous gas milage. My car is paid for. My car is quick and peppy. All this does not help the disease and I still long for a new rig. It got so bad that I was praying constantly that God would just give me a new car. Someone has to win free cars, right? I told my wise husband about my petition to my heavenly Father who loves to give his children good gifts and, do you know what he said? He said I should try praying for contentedness. After signing up for a bunch of "free car give-aways" online and only receiving a bunch more unwanted SPAM, I tried his "contentedness" theory.
So here I am, praying that God will somehow give me a content spirit about my tiny car while others around me seem to be driving new and bettter, shinier with 2 remote doors... sigh. Strangely, it worked. My "new car disease" has all but disapeared. I have occational relapses, but for the most part, I am thankful for my little, tiny, small, compact, no-leg room.... I regress..... wonderful, dependable car.
This brings me to the lyrics of one of my favorite VT songs. It brings to light a funny fact that many people drive vehicles they really don't need.
Larry- I like your car
Girl- I like Yours too
Larry- Is It a Jeep?
Girl- A Subaru
Larry- I like your tires
Girl- You've got nice chrome
Larry- A trailer Hitch ?
Girl- Left Mine at Home
Larry- Oh your suspension it suspends me over heights I've never known
Girl- And your roll bar is to die for by the way I like your chrome
Larry-You already said that
Girl- did I ?
Larry-yeah
Girl- oh
Both: Oh you and me in our sport utility vehicles crusin to 7-11 for a bag of frito laysOh you and me in our sport Utility Vehicles we'll slam into 4 wheel and pick up a dozen eggs and if there ever was a snow
Girl- A really really deep snow
Larry: And if everyone was stuck but us
Girl- We'd be the ones not stuck
Larry: then we could be the heroes
Girl- We could be the heroes
Both- we could be the herooooooos
Girl- We would push them and pull them
Larry: push them and pull them
Both- Push them and pull them right out of the snow
Both- Its my sport Utility Vehicle
Emma has really, really wanted a car to play with. She's been praying for a car every night ever since she played with her friend, Grace's, new car last month. We even looked at the battery operated ones at Wal-Mart that cost $279. She said, "I want that car." I said, "I know it would be fun, but we aren't going to get it. We are going to leave it at the store." Emma walked away from the car with no tears. I was proud of her and proud that she got the concept of dreaming. Often, my blissful paradise is made up entirely of dreams, so it is an important concept for a little one to figure out. In the car on the way home, she vocalized a few 100 more times that she wanted a car. I told her: pray about it!
Today I went out to a garage sale that advertised "tons of kid's stuff." I found a few good things and THIS CAR!!! So, while God is still dealing with my sometimes not-so content heart, Emma is loving her new car. She isn't concerned that it doesn't have a motor, so don't tell her.
God's gifts are good.

The sale out in W.Salem? I just came back from there, picked up a v-smile with games (learning toddler viedo game system) but every thing else I found to be way overpriced. I will pray too that He will choose to bless you. Whatever you do, don't get an SUV (unless it's the XL kind, like 'burb or excursion, even then be wery) if you want Emma to stop kicking your seat, they don't have enough leg room (we've learned the hard way) and let's face our kids will most likely not be short. Emma looks to be having lots of fun!
oh my goodness, such a cute post! I love that VT song (I was singing along as I read) and Emma's new car :)
Russell is going to be SOOOOOOOO jealous. He wanted a bright pink bike at the Wal-Mart in Tucson and we had to leave the store because of the tantrum. And it was only 8am!!
PS- we love our '03 Altima but needless to say, it is a car, and it hurts my back to put Russell in/out. An SUV would be nice. But the gas milegae wouldn't!
Congratulations all around!! You for your renewed contentment and Emma for the answer to her prayers! Looks like so much fun!!
