Motherhood is.

"My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think he enjoyed it."

~Mark Twain

When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts.  A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.

~Sophia Loren

If evolution really works, how come mothers only have two hands?

~Milton Berle

The formative period for building character for eternity is in the nursery. The mother is queen of that realm and sways a scepter more potent than that of kings or priests.

~Author Unknown

Any mother could perform the jobs of several air traffic controllers with ease.

~Lisa Alther

"Children seldom misquote you. They more often repeat word for word what you should not have said."

 ~Mae Maloo

It's not easy being a mother.  If it were easy, fathers would do it.

~From the television show The Golden Girls

There came a moment quite suddenly a mother realized that a child was no longer hers. ... without bothering to ask or even give notice, her daughter had just grown up.

-Alice Hoffman

It's the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have...One pair that see through closed doors. Another in the back of her head...and, of course, the ones in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and reflect 'I understand and I love you' without so much as uttering a word.

-Erma Bombeck

Her dignity consists in being unknown to the world; her glory is in the esteem of her husband; her pleasures in the happiness of her family.

-Jean Rousseau

* These photos (except for the ones of just the girls) were taken by my friend Jenni. I was doing a session for her and mentioned I wish I had just one good picture of myself. She said she would love to give it a try. I fixed the settings on my camera and we switched places. We got in a lot of laughs as she played photographer. Then, we pulled the kids in and I believe these are priceless pictures I will smile at for the rest of my life.

Motherhood is.... I have no words.

I am so glad that you Cherish being a mom. Some day (soon),you will be looking into colleges for Remington, as we have been doing lately with Katie. It was fun to see you in the pictures. I love the one where you are laughing!

I love the one with your super-model hair blowing in the breeze as you hold onto the things that make your life most glamorous.

These are so great, Alysun! As you know, it is difficul to be in the same picture with your children, yet when it happens we wish we did it more! I loved the mix of quotes with each picture...so true they all are!

This is one of my all time favorite quotes. I don't have near enough photos of Madison and I together and this is a good reminder of why I should get some. Beautiful quotes.
Beautiful family.

I just read Drops today and tried to comment couldn't figure it out. So I came here. I just loved the "One upped" story. Especially since I too spent the better part of Friday with a vomiting kid and all day Sat in the ER. Long story but I do have to say....I often recall your blogs and they are motivating to me to carry on and that 'it's not so bad.' I don't feel one upped and often find that I can endure more because I tell myself "Remember when Alysun had such and such happen and she carries on with grace. You CAN do this too!"

You are an inspiration. Now mind you if I was actively telling you my horror story and you retold me yours, I can see how it might feel a little different and one upped, but when I recall it myself on my own, it definitely keeps me motivated to keep going.

I love your humility, honesty and transparency. It helps me learn and be gracious to myself indeed.

Oh, those are great! Love the Children's Place sweaters! I bought the same ones for my grand daughters for Christmas, although I miscalculated on the sizes and they are too small for them to wear! So much for planning ahead! Oh well, I did get to save some of the stuff I got!
